Nice find and I think it can work due to the location and it looks like it will be bigger/more extensive than C. L. Evers was.
I agree, I think it will too. C.L. Evers tried and failed before, but they were not centrally located as mentioned in the video. Plus, (I might be wrong) they opened before most of the new development came on line.
Its funny, it took transplants from NYC to see the potential that most "leaders" in the community said could not be done for sometime. Granted, they are not a whole foods or a trader joes, but its another indication that outsiders have more confidence and/or vision in the community than some "vocal locals" or leaders do.

The place looks like a bodega plain and simple and not anything different than you'd would find in a garden variety Manhattan neighborhood off one of the main avenues. It's a glorified corner store with premium prices. People aren't stupid. By calling it a "food market" and grocery store, the fools at CenterState CEO and it's offshoot, the Downtown Committee can brag they attracted a grocery store when it's nothing of the sort. Meanwhile, the Sibley's Building redevelopment project remains stalled. A grocery store would be an excellent fit for the ground level space in the Sibley's Building.
The new Nice N' Easy convenience stores have more food products, including fresh produce than what will fit in that shoebox which actually looks smaller than the former CL Evers. A good percentage of the sleazy corner store owners on the North, South, West and near East Sides of the city are also probably from the places like Queens, The Bronx, Jersey City, Brooklyn and Patterson, NJ. The high concentration of food stamp recipients, lack of competing grocery stores, and dirt cheap real estate make Syracuse's inner city a very attractive business opportunity for budding quicki-mart operators.
