Wow! That's news to me. I wouldn't be surprised, as that part of the county doesn't have much in the way of shopping.

News to me too. I very much doubt it will happen even if the rumor is true. People in the south towns complain about no shopping nearby.... yet when presented with ways to actually bring it there, they'll probably be too afraid of the change. At least that's how I view how it will play out.
If it was a battle to bring Walmart to suburban towns like Camillus, then I can only imagine the reaction from rural towns like Layfayette!

Thank you for the wonderful photos! I can now add another couple of areas onto our list of possible places to live in the Syracuse area .
My husband and I are figuring that wherever we live we'd like a few acres and I'd been wondering how far out we'd have to go from Syracuse (where we'd be most likley to find employment.

If you end up living in the Fabius-Pompey-Tully area, you have two cities to choose from, for employment. Perhaps more, depending on the commute you're comfortable with... It's an equal driving distance to Syracuse and Cortland. Cornell and Ithaca aren't too far either. If you live in Cazenovia (next to Pompey, to the east, and equally near to Syracuse), Colgate becomes an option.

I'm not quite sure. The Fabius Pompey school district is very rural, so I'm betting municipal water is sparse down there. Though, the following map makes it look like there is city water (OCWA) in southern Pompey:

It wasn't at all uncommon to dig a well in an old cornfield for new construction (not through a contractor, my dad built a mortis-and-tenon/post-and-beam colonial for several years) but since she had no experience with wells and they received a water bill every month, it was just unfamiliar to her.
I'll call my mom later and see if she knows what the village uses for water. They don't live in Fabius itself but she grew up in Fabius-Pompey and went to their schools... she might know. ?? lol. Either way, I can't really see huge wells being dug to run the entire central school district. It would seem a bit far-fetched.
And Fabius-Pompey is no more "very rural" than Cazenovia. Both villages are home to all the schools in their respective central school districts, have affluent homes and homeowners, the yards and homes are well manicured, are surrounded by farms in every direction, and are just 20 minutes from Syracuse.

Yup, there are some very affluent parts of the Fabius-Pompey area among the very rural parts of the district as well.
