Default Omg is it really that bad???

I came accross this video on youtube. (I would link to it but i'm at work right now and can not access youtube) But the video down(trodden)town is a video of downtown syracuse talkin about how 45% of the shops have closed and shows all of these empty store fronts for rent. The video makes syracuse look kinda ghetto. Is it really that bad?

I'm aware of the video you're referring to. The person who shot the video clearly has an agenda since it showcased only one section of downtown Syracuse by the bus transfer station on South Salina Street which is somewhat ghetto. Although that particular area has a high vacancy rate, several blocks to the south and west is Armory Square, a trendy shopping district with boutiques, upscale restaurants, bars, and highend condos and apartments. A few blocks to the north is Hanover Square, an historic district of low-rise buildings that is similar to many New England cities with several pubs, an upscale mens clothing store, and loft apartments above renovated storefronts.

BTW; lots above renovated storefronts...oooh ...expensive? Where do I find these lofts?

Here is the list of available housing in Downtown Syracuse. Keep in mind, the majority of these units are probably occupied, however there may be some vacancies.

For more information on Downtown Syracuse here is the main website:
Downtown Syracuse

Armory Square website:
Armory Square :: Official Website for Historic Downtown Syracuse, NY

In regards to pricing, as with downtown Hartford, rents for market rate and upscale units that have been renovated and are in choice areas will be higher than suburbs like Manchester or Middletown. Renting in downtown Syracuse, with a few exceptions will be more costly than in suburbs with large apartment communities like Liverpool, North Syracuse, and Camillus as well as the city's university area. That being said, there are some downtown apartments, per the housing list that can be had for around $650. Another place within close proximity to downtown is Franklin Square. Many old factories have been coverted into loft apartments that are popular with young professionals. Rents in this area start at around $800 for a 1 bedroom with approximately 750 square feet.

THATS STILL CHEAPER THAN HARTFORD OR MASS! You rock. As long as I can find a job in syracuse - I'm there! Thanks!

Hawley Green is another neighborhood that is close to downtown, less than 1.25 miles from the university and has affordable rents as well. Although gritty and near some depressed areas, it seems to be going through a renaissance and signficant gentrification.

Welcome to the District of Hawley-Green!

It's already happening and has for a few years or so. Hawley-Green is an area that known for being "Gay friendly". Think about other cities in the country that have had Gay communities come in and clean up or revitalize an neighborhood. That's how Hawley-Green is, but it does have other families there as well.

Also, some other neighborhoods to check out are Westcott, University, Eastwood, Far Westside(which includes Tipperary Hill) and Outer Comstock, if you want to go the city route.

Also, here's a good website to check out for area jobs:Central New York Jobs
