I am loving this weather!!! For awhile there I was worried about the shrubs, and other vegetation that I had planted this spring because it really wasn't raining but this past week more than made up for it.

My first spring/summer back in CNY has been wonderful so far. Last year at this time I was miserable in 110 degrees worrying about the black widows in my back yard. Haven't been this happy in regards to weather in a long long time

I used to think that "North of the Thruway" - a popular phrase used by local weathermen the location of certain sets of conditions - was just a vague approximation. But I now work for a company whose office directly abuts the Thruway on the north side - adjacent to Rte 298. I'm amazed by how often it's snowing or raining on one side of the Thruway but when I get to Carrier just south of it - the weather is different than on this side.

The difference is even more dramatic between here and the outer University area. I call my folks a few times each week to check on them and they are often having radically different weather on Euclid Ave than we have out here in East Syracuse.

Well, the drought and cold continues. Haven't had any decent rain since the last time I posted a week ago.

This is what my asiatic lilies looked like this year....

With all the hoopla that the local media has been making about the all the supposed rain we were getting this summer....well guess what....Syracuse's official rainfall for the month of July 2009 was only 1.86 inches of rain.

Average rain for July is just over 4 inches.

That means Syracuse had less than half the average precipitation this July.

Since my yard never had the four inches of rain in June that was supposedly recorded at the airport....two days with over 2 inches of rain on two separate days.....that means I'm now about 6 inches below average for precipitation this year.

So can we please cut out all the "oh no.... more rain" comments!

I just looked back at the temperature statistics. I counted 23 days that were below average in July. Yikes!

(And May and June weren't that much better either)

Finally a soaking rain - day....a total washout!

I've been waiting for a day like this the whole year!
