Although I'm not against more boutique hotels, I would have preferred the condos. More residential units would have complemented the Madison Street adaptive re-use project that has by all accounts been a success. This could have further gentrified the area also.

I'm in agreement. I respect the work he's done previoulsy and can fully understand why he has to adapt to the current conditions but I still believe there's a market out there for residential condos on the near east side.
The Paul Fowler project known as Comstock Commons (corner of Comstock and east Colvin across from Manley Fieldhouse) was pooh-poohed by many when it was first built. At that time there was a lack of understanding in this area as to why people would buy a condo/apartment/clusterhome but times have changed. Those units sold slowly at first but as the concept and the convenience caught on he built and they still continue to command good prices (I've been in one and wasn't overly impressed with the construction quality or design but it is a great location).
