There's Oneida Shores, Jamesville Beach Park, and a few others; a ways further out there's stuff on the shore of Lake Ontario (about an hour or so drive) too.

Green Lakes, Gypsy Bay on Rte. 20 in Caz (for villagers only and it's more of a swimming/lounging spot than an actual beach), Jamesville Beach, Oneida Shores, Slyvan Beach, Southwick (an hour north, on Lake Ontario), Verona Beach... the first and last are state parks and it's $7 admission/car or $59/year.

There's also Fair Haven on Lake Ontario about 15 miles west of Oswego, Brennan Beach by Pulaski and Sandy Island Beach also near Pulaski.

I'd recommend Green Lakes first, then Jamesville Reservoir, and Fair Haven on Lake Ontario.

I would not recommend Oneida Shores - good for swimming and large gatherings, but not much else. (it's not a very pleasant park IMHO)

I'm high on Sylvan Beach because it has an amusement park and a nice, cute village with some good restaurants too. Sylvan Beach, New York

Sylvan - Verona Beach Resort Association, Sylvan Beach, NY

The family would go to Oneida Shores when I was growing up. About 4 years ago I went back to check it out. It seemed dirtier and less impressive than I remember it.

There is also Joseph F. William Memorial Park Beach in Cicero. Small beach, but it's free.

Emerson Park in Auburn at the end of Owasco Lake, Yaman Park in Cortland just off I-81 (actually started out as a gravel pit for the construction of I-81...)

Oh, and Oneida Shores has quite possibly the worst public campground in all of New York State, unless you enjoy putting up a trailer in a parking lot.

I don't understand why Oneida Shores is such a dump. It's an Onondaga County park - it's not like the county hasn't got any parks money.

I forgot about that beach off of Lakeshore road. Good catch.
