As a down-state-er that lived in Syracuse for 6 years, I'm sad to tell you "not gonna happen". I searched far and wide and there was nothing that even came close.

But on the other end of the rope, since I moved back down here I can't find good wings to save my life. I now stop to grab some wings even if I'm just driving thought the 'Cuse.

If you had to pick one of the following......

Pavone's Pizza, San Remo Pizza or Paladino's Pizza

Which one was the best in your opinion?

My personal favorites:

If I am ordering from my home in cicero then I order from Gino and Joes or Lakeshore Pizza (very similar to Pavones).

If I am out and about I will order from San Remo (in Liverpool/Clay) or Pavones (although I have yet to order from them since moving back).

I have heard good things about OIP (original italian pizza) but have yet to try them. Twin Trees also makes a good pizza (and an even better pasta sauce)

I dont know if we can really take this seriously seeing as how everyone I have ever met from Long Island believes that the NY/LI area is the unofficial capital of piazza and bagels. Ive been there, had both, and cant really say they are definitely better.

Never had San Remo's, but of the other two I would go with Pavone's Pizza

The pizza here does not even look the same ones in up/central state. They even use a different type of toppings and cheese. Example being sausage (my fav topping). You have those broken up "cooked ground beef" looking sausage . We use sausage slices. Not the round ones but the long oval shaped strips.

The dough is very different as well and rolled a lot thinner around here. Some think it's the water that makes it taste different. In fact there is a place in Florida that has NYC tap water shipped to their pizza parlor. Think that is a bit too much, but with all the people from around here moving to Fl is must be nice to have a taste of home.

My dream is to one day have "upstate" wings with "downstate" pizza.

I'll leave the bagels for another conversation, but if you could convince a friend of mine from up there that they are not any different I could stop being her bagel delivery boy when I come up

Not a fan of char-grilled wings. If ordering out I get the traditional bone-in medium style wings. If I make them at home then I bake them.

I agree that OIP's char-grilled wings are great but the pizza is average. I've never quite understood the raves about Twin Trees but it's worth noting that different Twin Trees locations are owned and operated by different members of the same family and the product may not be consistent from shop to shop.

I have not tried Mario and Salvo's (but hear good things) or Palladino's but as a guy who has eaten sopme of the best classic NYC and Stane Island style pies at the source and has enjoyed pizza in Syracuse for 40 years my vote for best Syracuse classic NYC Neapolitan style pie is as follows:

1) Johnny's or Cosmo's - on any given day one may edge out the other slightly but both are superb renditions of the genre. Please note that Johnny's was in a slump for a few years when the original owner sold it to his brother but he took it back two years ago and they are back to their former glory.

2) Pavone's generally comes in a close second to the above two.
