My personal favorite is New Century Vietnamese on Kirkpatrick. The people at Mai Lan, our other local Viet restaurant, are very nice, but IMO the food is not nearly as good. I think all of the local Thai restaurants are decent but my best Thai meals until recently were at Erawan. I recently had dinner at Appethaizing up on the SU Hill and it was the best Thai food I have eaten in Syracuse but it's not too convenient in terms of parking and access.
I have never been thrilled with the Chinese food I've had in Syracuse but people swear by China Road in Mattydale and it's widely regarded as the area's best Chinese restaurant. If you like Dim Sum there is only one option - China Pavilion on West Genesee serves it on Sundays.
Yeah, I've been disappointed in Erawan in recent visits. Appethaizing is pretty good, and New Century is as good as any Vietnamese place I've been to in New York or Washington.
Appethaizing is my favorite thai joint in syracuse too, close second is Erawan. I really didn't expect Appethaizing to be all that great, it seemed kind of cheesy on the inside with the flat screen TVs everywhere, and its kind of 'coldly' decorated, but the food was awesome. If you can handle a 3 block walk you'll be fine access-wise.
I've never tried the bangkok thai place in liverpool, but i've also heard that it is the best thai in syracuse.

Appethaizing is decent, but it's a bit too pricey IMO. Probably because it's the only thai place on the hill
