Hello Im thinking of moving to Baldwinsville near Syracuse. The reason for the move is fast processing of the INS I485 application. It only takes 2 months. I have never been to Syracuse, or Baldwinsville before. I was also thinking of Ithaca but it seems expensive to live there. What is it like???

What is INS 1485? Baldwinsville is beautiful. It is just outside of Syracuse New York. Winters are cold and very snowy, but the countryside here is breathtaking. I saw you had asked in another forum about home values and appreciation. Bear in mind that in areas where housing is so resonable in price, those areas don't genearally appreciate so quickly and that's exactly why they are so affordable. However in places like that you can get so much home for your money. So if you want quality of life, no traffic, nice people, a big home, a scenic area and don't mind the snow, than B'ville is great.

I lived in Liverpool (right next to Baldwinsville). Both are amazing! If you have kids, the two school systems are great! You are only about 15-20 minutes from downtown Syracuse.
You've got the Finger Lakes, State Fair, Casino, great restaurants, all kinds of stuff in the CNY-Syracuse area. |

Plus Beaver Lake Nature Center is nearby....and a new YMCA in Baldwinsville is slated to start construction this year.

I grew up in Baldwinsville. It is a very typical upstate small town--to me it has a Norman Rockwell all-American small town fee. The mindset of the people will match the size of the town--there is not a whole lot of racial diversity in B'ville. But it is a safe, low-priced, clean, friendly place to raise a family with a large public school system. The countryside is very, very pretty. The "downtown" area (called "Four Corners" LOL) has really changed a lot over the years! Now it is a charming little strollable area with quaint eateries, pubs, a bridge, and a large waterfront area that hosts lots of musical events and fireworks in the summer.
It is about a 10-15 minute drive to Syracuse. Weather-wise: The summers are humid and hot, and lots of people have swimming pools and blast the AC There is a river running through B'ville but it isn't a swimming place. There are some small lakes in the Syracuse area, however. In the winter you will be pummelled with snow 5 or more months. Be prepared to showvel or plow out your driveway sometimes many times a day during ths winter. Or , if you live in a condo or apt complex, they will do that for you. The cost of living is very low, and the people are very friendly. Not the most cultured or cosmopolitan place on earth, but if you aren't looking for that and are looking for small-town charm and lots of space, thent his is the place for you. |
