Not that it's necessary but I'll chime in about the Westcott area as well. My family has lived in or just adjacent to the Westcott neighborhood for 90 years - that is not a typo. We've seen it go through many up and down changes over the years. Although there have been a few rough patches here and there where the business district got sketchy for a year or two (but even then - only late at night,) it's an area that overall can be considered as safe as any other in the city but more diverse and a bit more interesting. I highly recommend it for young to middle aged professionals, grad students etc. who are moving here from larger, more progressive metro areas.
Not sure about Hawery and Green but my apt building has gay/gay friendly people in it one of the gay guy in one of the apt is abuse. His bf and him break up on and off and bf moves in/out.
Any questions please email me.
