Toys 'R' Us Launching Tablet for Kids

In a bid to battle the "showrooming" phenomenon that is hurting big-box retailers, Toys "R" Us Inc. said Monday it will start selling its own proprietary tablet designed for children.

The $149.99 Tabeo will be available only at Toys "R" Us, so shoppers won't be able to try it out in a store and then purchase it for less on a rival retailer's website. The tablet goes on sale Oct. 21, and pre-orders are now available online at Toysrus.com.

Most kids know how to use a iPad including my daughter so I think this tablet will be pointless for most kids that know how to operate Androids, iPhones and iPads. My 5 year old would get bored with it very quick. She has been using the iPad and iPhone since she was 3. She is using the Nexus 7 now.

I agree 100%. An iPad or Android is sufficient enough. Children as young as 2 years old can figure these complex devices out.

My son turns two tomorrow and can work our iPad better then his grandmother can.
We thought about getting this for him so he doesn't break it.

I'm not sure I'd give a kid a $500 toy (nor let a kid play with my $500 toy), even if it's somewhat protected by something like that.

A $149 toy, much more likely. So Toys 'R Us may have something worthwhile, there ...
