How about this:
Archos launches GamePad Android gaming tablet | ZDNet

Or maybe just a PS Vita? Nintendo DS?

Unlikely, since Android runs on many devices. Someone might have created a game for a specific tablet, but it might run just as well on other devices.

Well, right now I have a HP laptop with Windows 8.

I have heard the main platforms for tablets are iOS, Windows 8, and Android. Many people say iOS and Windows 8 are going to dominate.

I think I will get the Nexus 10 though with Android. In a world dominated by Windows and iOS, it's refreshing to have a good third alternative.

Sadly, Linux isn't a good third alternative for laptops and PCs as there is a small list of games you can play for those systems.

I haven't heard one person say that. And I am "in the industry".
iOS is #1 in the tablet market, for now. 2nd in mobile phone.
Android is #2 in tablets. #1 in phones.
MS as of right now is a very distant 3rd place in phones and not even on the map for tablets yet.

In 10 years, MS will be #1. Android will be #2. And Apple will be a distant 3rd.
Linux may be on the map by then.

Also, some one explained to me tablets are like enlarged smart phones and they share the same apps. Is this true?

I was considering getting a tablet, but I was thinking my Ipod touch does alot of the same things. Plus I needed a laptop for work and I like how PC and MAC laptops you can get Steam which has a great selection of games, and far better selection than the app store games.

And, you have data to back up this assertion?

Yes, this is largely true. At least, so far.

It sounds like for what you do, your idea to work with your iPod Touch and a laptop is a better solution than getting a tablet.
