All you need is a mobile hotspot device if you get a tablet without 3 or 4G. I would prefer it built in, but currently use a wifi only iPad with a mobile hotspot device on Verizon. It works wherever Verizon has service.

I would definitely look into this as an option. You can get pay as you go hot spots, and they can be used for more than just the tablet.

Have you decided what size tablet you want?

I have a Nexus 7 and would not buy anything bigger. If I am walking down the street the tablet is in my pocket. A 10 inch won't fit. I use my desktop to do text-to-mp3 and listen to the MP3's with the tablet. Audiobooks, music, whatever.

I would not buy a Nexust 7 now though. I would not buy a tablet without a microSD slot.
