If it can is it any good at it? Basically I want a tablet that can function as an ereader and normal computer. Any advice?

Yes, it can. It is great for browsing, and ereading, and okay for word processing as long as you get a keyboard with it. Even though it is okay, you're better off with a laptop for word processing.

Android and Apple tablets are fine for Word Processing. I would suggest an Android tablet for it, though. It's easier to save and share files between apps with an Android.
If you are looking for Microsoft Office on a tablet, you're best bet is a WIndows tablet.

This needs moved to TABLETS.
Or the tablet forum needs moved here. *Ahem

I rarely fire up the PC at home for general web browsing and no longer bring it on trips. The iPad does that flawlessly, and is ready to go when I flip open the lid. The PC takes time to boot, etc.

For word processing...definitely the PC.

I carry a iPad and an Ultrabook with a SSD drive. If your needs are more computer related then get a Ultrabook as they are thin and light. If you need something that's an oversized smartphone then the iPad is what's needed.

Web surfing or word processing the iPad does very well. There are several word processing apps you can use with the iPad, and "Pages" is one of the best. My wife has a fairly new Intel iMac with a 21' screen, but she rarely uses it now. All she uses to surf the web, to check her e-mail, Facebook, word processing, or purchasing online is an iPad.

Surfing, email, yes.

Wordprocessing -- I would NOT recommend it.

Wordprocessing is fine on a Tablet. I can't believe all the "Haters". For 80% of what most people do, it's fine. And works well. You should have an external Keyboard, though. for whichever tablet you get.

Haters? That's an inane inference, considering I'm using my ipad right now to reply, and yet still do not recommend using an ipad for word processing.

Peregrine must be one of those irrational and impractical Apple Fanboys.

and you must be new to this forum if you think that.

My tablet is one of these.

Word Processing is a BREEZE. 2 of my bosses have iPad with BT Keyboard and they have no problem creating documents. But if you want ALL the bells and whistle like applying styles or creating a ToC, you don't want a tablet. However for most folks, it's pretty easy to type documents on a tablet. ALL Tablets MatttoAlex....
