I'm starting to really enjoy reading eBooks with my Androidtablet (a Moto Xoom).
However, I just started a book series and the author loves to add little bits here and there via footnotes.
A lot of footnotes! Nesting footnotes!
For previous books, I had settled on using CoolReader for my eReader of choice, since it handles ePub format books (non-protected), which describes the majority of my rather large eLibrary.
Then footnotes ... CoolReader shows the footnote symbol in the text, but with my tablet, I haven't figured out how the actual links work, if they even do.
Nook works well (links work both ways), but it's display is only minimally configurable and I don't like it's colors, line spacing, etc. (Why I do like CoolReader). I've also tried:
Aldiko (link works, but won't return), and
FBReader (couln't handle footnotes at all)
Kindle, (only good for Amazon's books)
Any suggestions?
I don't care how the footnotes are displayed, being shown on the same page as the referring link, or a long-press gets a pop-up bubble, or activates a link to another page, or whatever.
Thanks for the suggestion. Moon+ Reader looks like a really nice reader. But unfortunately, I couldn't see how to get it to recognize the footer link either.
I'm bumping this thread as I have found that the latest version of CoolReader now supports Footnotes by the process of an in-document link from the source to an EndNote, that also has a Back-Link to the original location / referring text.
While this works, it's a bit awkward. So I'm asking again for ePub readers (Android) that support Footnotes, that is to say, it reformats the referring PAGE to show the note, rather than have them all at the end of the document.
It's been a year, and I've still not found an android (and preferably Win also), epub reader that handles footnotes and end-notes.
Anyone?
