Something I never thought about, but my wife did.

Android won't do multitasking worth crap. She has a place she goes to on the Internet that (long reason) requires her to open two instances of a browser. One for video, and one for audio.

To my knowledge there is no app that will do this for a version newer than 4.0.3

Anyone know of an app that will? OverSkreen won't. Floating Browser won't.

Android is capable of multitasking. With the exception of Samsung Notes (and maybe a few others), Android can only run one active application at a time. To run more than one application simultaneously, the ones that are not going to be the active application needs to be registered as a service.

Samsung Notes can have two apps side by side (and some apps can float).

Generally, tablets (other than Windows tablets), are not designed to have multiple active applications. However, this will surely change. It is not a technological limitation of the software.

Tek, I noticed the same thing. Jelly Bean reminds me of a GUI DOS and some of the bad days with early windows. It is slow, Pulse keeps crashing, aps are grabbing CPU cycles on startup to the point that I have to wait a couple minutes (if wi-fi is enabled) to do anything. What I'm really missing though is some sort of diagnostic or task-manager replacement so I can see who the bad actors are.

I've been browsing {shudder} Windows 8 tablets. If that's what it takes to get true multitasking then that's what we'll buy.

I got a feeling all these handhelds will get much better in the next year or two - Moore's law. Remember how 286, 386, and 486 then Pentiums got better and better and better? Tablets and handhelds are still pretty weak compared to regular computers.

We're sort if in the "first generation" of hand held devices.

I remember running Windows 1.0 on an 8086. Took forever just to refresh a directory.

True, but we don't want to wait a year or two. We are planning on a lot of travel and don't care to haul around laptops anymore.

I remember the 8086. Our first computer was an IBM PC-1.

IBM PC didn't have an 8086.

Windows 8 tablets are a good idea if you need true multitasking. I'm a big fan of the ThinkPad Helix Tablet.

I never said IBM had one. I said I remembered it. Having the PC-1 as our first computer doesn't mean it had the 8086.

Don't assume.

I'll look into the Helix. Thanks.

Looked at it. I want a nice tablet. I'll pay a decent price. I won't pay an indecent price.

I seem ro be bouncing between the

ASUS Vivotab Smart Black Office 2013 H&S ME400C-C2-BK 10.1-Inch 64GB

And the

Acer Intel Atom 2GB Memory 64GB internal storage 10.1" Touchscreen Tablet Windows 8 W510-1666

Each has different strengths an weaknesses. Apparently the Acer speaker (singular and on the left side) sucks. The method for a stand is interesting and seems to work well.

The ASUS keyboard/stand combo is nice because it has another battery that adds life to the tablet and a full size USB port, but it sucks for stability.

Neither has 3G

Maybe Best Buy has them in stock and we can go play with them.

I'm a big fan of Asus, Tek, as you probably know. I have unfortunately had to use their support system twice now and it has been a great experience both times.
