these tablets are very similar

here's a link to the C-Net review of the Dell venue 8

Dell Venue 8 Review - Watch CNET's Video Review

"Though it lacks any exciting design elements or a token high-end feature, the Dell Venue 8 is a refreshingly welcome tablet that nails the price to value ratio. It's a sub-$200 tablet running a pure recent version of Android that actually delivers smooth performance. That's something we don't see often enough"
That's not exactly a good review; 3 out of 5 stars is equal to 6/10 or a 60% score.

If you actually READ it though, it's not an awful review.
It's a great price from a reputable company.

I would pass on it though. I am picky about what electronics I spend my money on.

I'm still very happy with my 1st gen Nexus 7, had it about a year now, great little player, but my wife wants a tablet, so she's going to try a Dell Venue 8.

I've had my 1st gen N7 nearly a year now also and have not had any issues with it. I'm thinking of getting another tablet. I like the new N7 with the camera on the back, but I think I may look at a 10" tablet instead. I'll peruse the sale offerings around the holidays here and see if there are any deals I can't pass up.

I didn't say it was awful either; I think there are better ones like the Nexus 7 which are high end devices but still at a reasonable price. If I went for a Microsoft tablet I'd go for the new Dell Venue 8 Pro, a little bit pricier at $299 but it comes in 32 GB and its basically a PC/Tablet hybrid.

Had to read a review on this when I realized it has full Win8.1 on it.

Dell Venue 8 Pro review | The Verge

Not BAD for $300 when MS is selling the Surface2 for $900+... but I would still wait for other companies to put out some other products. This seems rushed to me. No HDMI? Only one Micro-USB? 32GB? When I do get a real Win8 it needs a read sized hard drive.

Lenovo and Toshiba also released 8 inch Windows 8.1 tablets; the Lenovo is $300 for the 32GB model (same as Dell), but the Toshiba appears to be $330.

The Nexus 7 still appears to be the best value especially now that Bestbuy has dropped the price by $30 on both the 16GB (now $199) and 32 GB (now $239) models.

Awesome. Thanks for the info. I'll look for a good deal either on Black Friday or Cyber Monday.

I'm just not sure about windows on an 8" screen and what kind of selection of apps do you get with windows.

I read the other day that the Dell Venue 8" 16GB (the android version) normally sells for $180 will be $129 at Dell's site beginning Thanksgiving night at 6PM. That makes it a nobrainer for me.

I'll go look for the link now.

OK I found the link to the Dell Venue tablet sale, even if you're not interested in the tablet it's still worth a look, a lot of deals there.

Dell Black Friday 2013 ad leaks: Laptop, desktop, tablet PC deals | ZDNet

"Let's start with the tablets, where Dell is trying again with its new Venue slates. The budget-minded Venue 8 Android model, using a new Intel Atom processor and coming with 16GB of storage, was launched at $179.99, but starting on Thanksgiving at 6 p.m., it will be on sale on Dell's website as a virtual doorbuster for $129.99, or $50 off".
