Does anyone have any recommendations for a good sturdy case for a child? I have seen some online but they say for instance like"made for kindle fire" so I am not sure if it will work with the one that I bought, so I'm looking for something that is universal. It NEEDS to be extremely sturdy and durable. Thanks!

you may have to get something specific for the product you bought. not all 7" are 7". many are 7.3 or 7.1 etc. and then they also have different thicknesses.

I stumbled across an alternate to using a "Tablet Case".
DVD Player cases are made for devices the same size, and have similar protections. The ones I've seen are MUCH less expensive that the cases marketed for tablet use.

What is OK for an adult to carry a DVD player around is totally different than what you need for a child with a tablet.

You absolutely need something made specifically for the model of tablet you bought. You probably paid good money for the tablet, so get the right case. You don't necessarily have to get an expensive OtterBox or the Ballistic Jacket, but don't cheap out, either. Eventually the child is going to drop it (heck, an adult will drop it at least once), so get something that's a full case to protect the edges all around. I would not get one of the wraparound "folio" cases like this:

If you don't buy a case made specifically for your model, it's likely that any cable inputs on the tablet (like for headphones) will not line up with the case. Speakers may not, either. And you may end up with less screen because the cover or case is covering up some of it.
