After a year of looking, I finally bought a Samsung Surface from Bestbuy.com for about $200. We have two laptops that are OLD and I want to 'save' them for typing and just get a tablet for surfing/streaming.

LOVED the hardware, HATED the software. It will only do Windows stuff...you have to have an outlook acct, which I hate, etc, won't let you download much of anything. So it is going back.

If anyone has stumbled across a GOOD android 10" tablet for a decent price, I'd love to hear about it. There are lots of models, but I'm not going to be the guinea pig with a non-name brand.

What's a decent price?

I have the google Nexus 10, and I like it. It's not quite as smooth as my iPad 2 was, but it's comparable, and for a much more reasonable cost. And it's not as proprietary as either Windows or iOS (Apple).

You aren't going to find a good name brand 10" tablet for under $200. Sorry.

I have a Motorola XOOM. It is certainly not the latest and greatest, but you can find them all over Craigslist for under $200.
Got mine for $135.

I love it, and will only upgrade when I go to a Surface Pro for computing ability.

No, I didn't mean I had to have a good name brand...I meant I was willing to buy a cheapo, but not without recommendations from someone else who had test driven it.

So....when i took the tablet back to best buy...I stumbled on another 10" Insignia tablet. It immediately did what I wanted the other one to do. Since I was only going to get back store credit from best buy, I went ahead and bought it.

my daughter and I tried it out at home, but then she took it away from me and wrapped it up. I can't have it back until the 25th.

i also bought a Chromecast so we can watch tv. we are cancelling the cable...which will save me $75 per month, so the tablet/chromecast will pay for themselves really quickly.

the deals on tablets on Groupon were great, and I wish I'd seen those sooner.
