Have you tried going into airplane mode, or turning WiFi off, instead of shutting down? It's been my experience that having WiFi on drains battery quickly on Android devices. While it's still annoying to go in and out of airplane mode, it is a lot faster than a cold boot.

YES YES YES YES YES....

Either one would be a much better choice.

Read SUPBud's post...
Spend a few dollars more. You will be gad you did.

SUPBud's problem is probably not the WiFi. The Default setting is "turn off WiFi when tab is on Standby and not plugged in"... although you can change that setting...

nice find^

one potential word of caution for the Dell Venue (android) tablets they recently were given a KitKat update and some percentage of the tablets were freezing or bricking

how rampant? I don't know but i recommended to my wife that she not install the kitkat update

I am pretty happy with my asus so far. Able to play snes games at perfect speed, Skype is fine (as fine as Skype can be, ugh), internet browsing seamless, amazon prime near perfect with occasional minor hiccup (though maybe that is just amazon prime). Location of volume/power and range of viewing angles not as bad as those on amazon said it would be, though amazon reviewers are notorious for being negative, as if they have nothing better to do than give really negative reviews. But overall, I am doing everything I need to do. Looking for a good map app. I really like maps2go on my iphone but I think I got that free on a one day free offer.

Took a quick look at SAAN's link. The only one I've ever heard of is Hisense.
I don't know about dual core, but you should be able to get 1 GB of RAM for $75.

I can get that for 150 - I do not want to get higher than that. Is that a good deal for what I get?

Or the Dell Venue (Ven8-1999LK) for 145.
If you're willing to go to $150, I'd get a refurbished Google Nexus 7.

Amazon.com: refurbished nexus 7

Since Nexus models get the OS updates before any other brand, it's the surest way to stay current in the Android tablet world. My Nexus 7 2012 got KitKat on the day that it was released. AFAIK, no other tablet model got it that soon.
