Regina, one thing I thought you should know....I have been searching and have not found a single low cost-free Kindle book with color illustrations!

So if the main reason you were thinking of the color Fire instead of an e-ink Kindle, just thought you might want to know that unless you plan to subscribe to magazines, you won't find much reading material with color photos!

On my Fire book illustrations and photographs do not display in color?

Hope you get it all worked out soon, and are able to enjoy kindling.

I've ordered Wi-Fi; had to speak to another customer service person (this one had a brain). I ordered a Kindle Paperwhite (the basic one, not the one with 3G); I might upgrade later, if I find I like using an e-reader. I didn't order a power charger; Amazon was charging $20 extra and I thought I might be able to get one for less if I needed it (do I?). I'm not quite ready for a tablet...

Congratulations! I believe you will love your Paperwhite. No, you don't have to have the power charger. Amazon is wrong to not include it with the e-ink Kindles. It just takes longer to charge it with your PC via USB cord.

To get you started here is a link for you to bookmark for daily Kindle Freebies.Always be sure to check that the price does say $0.00 before clicking to DL a book as the price can change in just hours and not be free any longer.
Also make sure that it is not just free for the Amazon 'PRIME' members! That it says 'Kindle Edition '$0.00.

I check for freebies, everyday, and when I get one I like I also check on that book's page for the similar books,to see if any of the other 20 or so suggested titles are free.
I always read the book's synopsis carefully,to check # of pages[I rarely DL any book with less than min. 250 pgs] and it must sound interesting to me.

You can also do a search for Kindle Freebies in the genre of your choice such as Romantic Comedy~

You can buy one of these, too, and just use the cable they do include.

Amazon.com: PowerGen® Black 2.4-Amp (12 Watt) Dual USB Wall Charger w/flip down Plug Designed for Apple and Android Devices: Cell Phones & Accessories

In an attempt to really keep costs down I assume is why they don't include one.

I think they also know that a lot of people already have usb chargers. I use the same one for my phone and have them plugged into a few different locations around the house.

My favorite site for free/cheap books is PixelofInk.com
