We have the Nexus 7's in our family (everyone of us has one) and we love them. I'm sure most Nexus products would be worth the money. You may only think you are buying it for one purpose, but you will find so many other things to use it for. I love taking it when I travel, they have on screen keyboards that are easy to use (think cell phone qwerty keyboards but larger), check our email, take along tons of digital books to read. My husband was the most resistant to wanting it when we decided to make it our family Christmas present last year, but he uses his the most of any of us, never leaves home without it.

You should get an Android since you are familiar with them and you can get more for your money than with an Apple product.

Here are some that you should look at, they are all good quality tablets with 10"+ display screens.

Samsung - Galaxy Tab 4 10.1" (Best Buy has these on sale now for $280+tax)

Asus - Transformer Pad T100TAF - 10.1" (You can get these with a detachable keyboard (About $300 w/keyboard, $200 without keyboard)

HP - 10 Tablet - 10.1" - (About $170+tax)

Here are some tablets under budget $400 or less

- Nexus 7 - (It’s a 7-inch, rubber-backed tablet powered by a 1.3Ghz quad-core Tegra 3 and 1GB of RAM. It comes in both the 8GB and 16GB storage variants (we tested the 16GB) and it weighs just 340 grams.)

- iPad Mini - (Under the hood of the 7.9-inch device is dual-core A5 processor with a neat little clock speed of 1GHz, 512MB of RAM, a 1024×768 pixel screen that packs 162 pixels per inch and a 5-megapixel rear facing camera. )

- Galaxy Note 8 - (Weighing just 388 grams, the Note 8 has an 8-inch screen (duh) with a 1280×800 resolution and 189 ppi, on top of a 1.6GHz A9 quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and the choice of either 16GB or 32GB of storage, expandable up to 64GB via a micro SD card.)
