Well I ordered a bluetooth keyboard, an Anker, and it paired with my tablet just fine, but would not type anything at all in any app. Bummer in the summer.... I called their tech support, they could not help me and told me to just return it. So now I have to find another keyboard, that works with my tablet, and now that this one didn't, I'm not sure if any of them will.
The tablet in question is an Acer Iconia Tab 8 A1-850 running Android 4.4.4 and it's the newest one Acer makes. So I go back to Amazon looking for a keyboard for my specific tablet, and there are none. There are keyboards for every other model Acer makes, but mine is not listed. So, will bluetooth keyboards for other Acer tablets work with my spanking new A1-850, or should I wait until someone makes one that will?
Apparently not, this one didn't, and their tech support could not help. They didn't know what the problem was and told me to just return it. I'd rather not go through this again, so I'd like some assurance that my next keyboard won't have the same problem. I was able to pair it with my Mac running Mountain Lion and it worked great, so the issue is that it won't work with my particular tablet for some unfathomable reason. I need one that does work with it, but which one to get?
I've tried looking in the Acer Tablet forums, but apparently this device is so new none of them deal with it at all. Calling Acer tech support got me nothing either, they won't even recommend a bluetooth keyboard or tell me which will work with it, they want no part of this. I'd really rather not do trial and error on this...
Bluetooth is a universal standard though.
If it works on your laptop but not your tablet, maybe the tablets BT is not working right??
Did you get it to air with the tab?
ANY BT keyboard should work. I'm not even remotely exaggerating. Your tablet is BT 4.0.... you could even buy a BT 2.0 or 3.0 and it would work flawlessly.
Acer support sucks? That's too bad to hear. How do they not want to help even a little. They sucked back in the day...I would hope they improved. (This is why Acer is on my DO NOT BUY list... a bad experience with support 6 or 7 years ago).
Well as it turns out I finally got the keyboard to work. I'd already requested a return with Amazon, but decided WTH, I'll give it one more try... I took out the batteries, put them back in, restarted my tablet, and turned on the keyboard, re-paired it, and whaddayaknow, it worked! I'm so glad.
Oh yeah, I really do, despite the fact that nothing in this world can drive you up the walls like a computer. Once you have your stuff working and running right it's a prize worth all the frustration
