If you like college football and college towns, nobody, and I mean NOBODY will come close Gainesville. The entire city is part of the gator nation. There is nobody more passionate about college football in the entire US of A than a gator fan.

I thought you were joking at first, but now I know you're serious so, Gainesville.

When I see what some of these gator fans write on here to try to make that hole in a wall known as Gainesville sound like a good city, makes me sick. I'm not even gonna get into this thread, i'll get stressed trying to explain how much better Tallahassee is.

I think all folks would like a city near water and near shopping. Once you enter Gainesville your like "Uhhh, what? I thought this was a city"

City of Tallahassee is near 200,000 (Same as there metro? I think so)

Tallahassee:

Now lets do some comparing & contrasting.

- Shopping Malls
Tallahassee: 2 (Tallahassee Mall, Governors Square Mall) Both Big Malls.
Gainesville: 1 (Oaks Mall)

- Education
Tallahassee:
Leon High School
Lincoln High School
Sail High School
Chiles High School
Rickards High School
Godby High School
Florida High School
Florida State University
Florida A&M University
Tallahassee Community College
Gainesville:
F. W. Buchholz High School‎
Gainesville High School
Eastside High School
University of Florida
Sante Fe' College

- Museums
Tallahassee has MANY more museums. Living in this city for all my life, I know every living thing about this whole city.
Gainesville has nothing, besides being a hole in the wall. I'm not dissing the city, i'm being honest. ALSO, Tallahassee is the greenest city in Florida. No doubt about it. It's our city's main focus. Green Thumb Tallahassee.

I'd also like to talk about downtowns.

- Buildings:
Tallahassee's Tallest: 24 Plaza Tower @ Kleman Plaza
Gainesville's Tallest: 10 stories? some old hotel?

Thank you,

I don't quite understand why you feel the need to slam Gainesville in every single post. They are two entirely different cities and will attract different types of people. I don't see how the skyline and number of shopping malls makes one place better than the other, especially when you include Tallahassee Mall as a selling point when it's a dead mall from a commercial standpoint. It's just a really goofy thing to get worked up over.

Tallahassee mall is being renovated with new stores coming in such as best buy to occupy Goody's old store. I own Welcome To Tallaclassy I know Tallahassee, and I think if anyone really compared, they'd much rather live in Tallahassee then Gainesville.

Some people go off on their own tangets. From the OP I doubt he cares about how many malls there are. Since when is having more schools important? Especially when they are ranked below the few that are in a smaller town.

Anyway. The OP said he likes college towns. We'll Tally is much more than just a college town. Gainesville is a college town like Athens/Chapel Hill etc.

Both counties are more liberal than many in FL. I think you'd be best to look at some local voting/county voting results. In Gainesville since just about everyone is associated with UF I think you will find a more liberal atmosphere.

Everything in Gainesville is connected to UF. There is not else much to do. That's why I'm saying Tallahassee is not just connected to FSU, though it has more of a population of college students then UF & Sante Fe has (FSU, FAMU , TCC) so you can enjoy a college city while being able to shop, and do bigger city activities.

Not sure why you're making Tallahassee out to be a big city with loads to do. What services does it have that Gainesville doesn't, an extra Wal Mart? I went to FSU and think Tallahassee is a nice town in itself, but let's not get carried away here. Tallahassee is also more isolated than Gainesville (2 1/2 hours from Jax, 4 hours to Tampa or Orlando, whereas Gainesville is about 2 hours from each) and isn't much closer to an actual beach despite being only 25 miles inland. I'm not here to defend Gainesville per se, but the differences between the two are pretty marginal to anyone who comes from elsewhere.
