Question Lake Talquin AND/vs Woodville info please

I'm strongly looking at getting some land in 1 of these areas to build on, as well as have a garden, storage buildings (boat, trailer, gardening and other stuff, etc), dog, etc. Will be working in TLH, and it'll just be the wife and me. Am considering Woodville more strongly, since the commute to the Gulf would be much less, even though I'd hit Lake T occasionally for crappie (Specs) too. Still have a couple short yrs left in the Army, but would appreciate input/comparisons of these spots. Thanks much. JP.

I'm not sure shaving 10 minutes off your drive to the Gulf is worth living in Woodville...

Plenty of nicer places all around!

Just curious, what would be the drawback of Woodville? I have read a lot of your posts on Tallahassee and respect your opinion so don't hold back if there is something we should know.

Low-performing schools, mostly lower-income area in general (therefore, buying real estate there will always be risky). Not the prettiest part of the county. I don't have a problem w/rural areas, but some are better than others ... and this isn't one of the better ones.

Thanks sir. I get the idea. Where would you look for a few (2-5 or so) acres? I'm a doc and am looking at moving there in about 3 years or so. Was thinking Woodville or around/on lake Talquin. Thanks.

Good question. I will "pass" on providing any reliable info on the Lake Talquin area since I didn't spend much time there (and I lived in TLH 20+ yrs and still visit regularly). There is a Gadsden County side and a Leon County side. One piece of advice I can give is to not over-spend since the western section of the county has never been a high cost or high appreciation area, if you know what I mean.

I actually lived in the SW part of Tallahassee until middle school, when my parents moved to the NE part of town back in the 1980's. I'm admittedly biased towards the northern/NE part of the city/county. There are large lots (kind of like the 2-5 acres you mentioned) in northern/NE Leon County that I prefer to western/southern Leon. Lots of rural character, but a close drive to shopping and amenities in northern or eastern TLH. There are also some accessible lakes (Iamonia, Miccosukee) in the north, but be sure to ask about flood plains if you inquire about something next to a lake.

Another area is NW Leon near Lake Jackson -- but I will also "pass" on that since opinions vary and I didn't spend much time in that area.

That is a lot of really good information. Let me ask you, are you on city or well water? Do you have any experience with well water in that area. Actually this can be extended to anyone in the Tallahassee area regarding well water. I may start a thread no that I am thinking about it.

I no longer live in TLH, but I was always on city water when I lived there.
