If we go private we will likely choose Berkeley, Independent or Carrollwood Day.

Yes, how horrible to have your parents worried about your education.

My son isn't 2 yet and we've started researching our public and private school options. I don't think it will harm him in any way.

For whatever reason, I can't edit within my post so I will have to post an "edit" here:

I should have mentiond that we will be in Apollo Beach. The commute time to any of the aforementioned schools isn't an isuse, as I drive about the same now. Are there any families in MiraBay that send their children to any of these schools? Or can anyone recommend some alternatives that are closer?

Default Saint Pauls

I can tell you what school to stay away from. Saint Paul's in Clearwater. They use to be a great school but since they hired the current head of school, the school has went down fast. The head of school let go many great teachers in the last couple years. They have no PE program now as all the PE teachers were let go. All they have is the Athletic Director teaching all the classes and he has no idea how to teach. The music teacher was let go, a lot of the elementary teachers were let go, some being there for many years. The school use to be considered a "family" but not since the new head of school came. Many great families have left because of this. Real shame.

There is nothing remotely close to an Independent Day School in the area. That is going to be one heck of a commute on a daily basis.

I am good friends with the headmistress at IDS and have worked with her professionally on a number of occasions. If my kids were school age and I could come up with the $$, I would definitely send them there. It is expensive, but a very rich and rigorous environment.

I get their monthly newsletter, and it always amazes me to see the alumni news on how so and so is clerking for a Supreme Court justice, attending one of the military academies, etc. Not only is it a good education, it places your child in a position where they are rubbing elbows with future leaders and those with influence.
