Hi all, Im in the process of getting a US bank account prior to moving over and as a health professional, Citibank have a special process in place for doing so and also waive bank fee's. So it sounds good! Im just wondering though...are there many Citibanks around in Tampa bay area?

Careful, there are NO Full Service Citibank Branches here in the Tampa area if you want a Certified check or other type of Branch style services. Sure there are plenty of ATM's, but not at Citi branches. The only Branches are in West Palm Beach.

I would think other banks have the same program. You might check out Chase Bank which is a large international bank like Citibank, but also has a large presence in the area with actual branches.

JD Power rated Chase as one of the top 1 or 2 bank's in the country in customer satisfaction.

Toots, I moved here from the NYC area less than one year ago.
I was a Citibank customer for several decades. They were/are great. They held 2 mortgages I had, business accounts, personal accounts, etc.
However, there are no branches down here so I switched to another bank.
What you should know is this: Citibank some years ago contracted with 7-Eleven. In most 7-elevens in the US there are now Citibank ATMs, which means you can withdraw cash from there, which is very convenient for me.
Some Publix markets also have Citibank ATMs.

However, there aren't any full branches in Tampa, which is why I switched to another (inferior) bank. At a full branch you can get all sorts of financial services whereas at an ATM all you can do is withdraw cash.
You can deposit $$ there too, but personally, I don't believe I'd ever deposit money to one of the ATMs at 7-eleven.

Brilliant thanks so much guys for all the info...I think I'll go ahead and open a Citibank account, even just for the purposes of being able to transfer money into it before we leave scotland ( so I can pay for rent deposits etc) and to set something up for getting my salary paid into initially. I will only be taking money out at an ATM intially...nothing too fancy for now at least

You can always take some cash out and open a bank account someplace. Heck.. even Walmart has a bank now. You don't want to pay ANYONE with cash for housing etc.
