Hello all,

My husband and I, along with 2 kiddos (5 and 11) are making our way back to FL after a 4 year separation. Originally from Miami, but we are currently in CT, where my complaints about the high cost of Florida living now make me blush in shame!!

My DH is taking a decently paid job in Tampa and I am a school psychologist. I doubt very much that I will find work in any of the 3 major counties (Hillsborough, Pinellas, and Pasco), but I am going to teach psych courses at the college level as a back up. That being said, our combined yearly income is around 90-120K.

First of all, we rent. We have horrific credit from years of student loans and making little money. We are working on repairing it now that we both have degrees and decent pay, so we should be able to buy in a couple of years.
We want the best possible school district, first and foremost, and a nice large house for no more than $2,000 per/mo.

Everything else is flexible! Hope to not commute more than 30 minutes.

Thanks!!

You should say which part of Tampa your hubby will be employed, so that others can give you opinions re places to live.

3910 Riga Blvd
Tampa, FL 33619

the website says it is located near the intersection of Interstate 75 and Interstate 4.

So far, we are interested in Valrico, Wesley Chapel, Apollo Beach, Bloomfield, and Fish something (I can't remember)

Fishhawk Ranch (which would be a good choice for you). I don't know how good the Apollo Beach school are. I also think you mean Bloomingdale instead of Bloomfield.

You should be able to find a very nice house for $2,000 in all those areas. I have a map of Hillsborough county with the school ratings saved somewhere, I'll see if I can find it to post it.

Op- Be careful when renting.

Issues with rentals going into foreclosure are bad in Florida leaving many people without a home to rent.

Someone will come along and post the info and where to find out if the landlord is in foreclosure, liens etc on the property.

I think TampaKaren or SWFLGal posted a link to this information but I am not sure.

It would be great if I am able to actually check on that! As I told you in my DM, this has already happened to us in Illinois and we do NOT want to repeat the experience!
I wonder if it's possible to request a statement from the owners of the house we are looking at? Certainly if they are going to be checking up on me as a renter, I should have the right to check on them as the home owner, right?
