I have to say I GOT OUT of SPRING HILL about an hour after I arrived!! First things first- the economy is PATHETIC!! They claim a Starbucks is coming? Please. You said it yourselves, Spring Hillers--- Books A Million won't even come because the demographics aren't strong enough (this means the educations of the general population are too low, people don't earn enough of a disposable income and that's just not going to support a book store-- not even an outlet book source like Books A Million. In order to get a Starbucks, the area has to have a REAL bookstore, like Borders or Barnes and Noble!) Just take a ride down Spring Hill Drive, but don't forget to lock your doors!! Ew!! The only businesses developing there are the drug dealers who "work from home". This is redneck central. Drive along the side streets and see all the cars up on cinderblocks and curtains flapping out of broken windows. You will see a few nicely groomed lawns mixed in the many, many, foreclosed homes, homes rented by scum of the earth, and the rest are for sale by owner!! Wake up, Dorothy!! There are NO new businesses to support this area. Out of every 100 people residing in Spring Hill only 2% between the ages of 17 and 62 have a college education. Everybody and their brother got his real estate license a few years back. Yep, they all up and quit their jobs at 7-11 and became realtors. Oh NO!! Now there's no one to fix the slurpee machine! Instead of checking out the number of sink holes (county hides real records)- try looking up the child molesters in the county. Try looking up the previously incarcerated living in the county-- that's right, ladies and gentlemen- You'll be surprised to see what you'll be moving in next to! Why doesn't the county do something? Well, if those people don't want the houses- that means NO ONE wants the houses! Drive down every sidestreet off of Spring Hill Drive and see what has really "become" of the place. The economy is sparce. The schools are horrible, the job market is non-existent, everyone owns their own lawn mowing company. Have you SEEN the BROWN lawns in the summer months?
It is a disgusting fact but Spring Hill should be renamed Spring Hell! Moderator cut: comment quote=Songbird42;998070]I happen to love Sam Selter's Steakhouse, I go to the one at the mall in Port Richey on a monthly basis, when I saw that the Whistle Junction had closed, I was right there writing Sam Selters, the existing parking lot is great, the building looks like its in great shape.....so i suggested they look into it. Got a reply that Olive Garden already had a contract and they are looking for a place in Hernando Cty because alot of there business is from Hernando Cty I have the time to ride around and look, so I'm always on the lookout for that "prime spot" for them to go here. I also wrote to books-A-million/barnes & noble/borders and was told by all three that the education level and household income is not here in Hernando Cty yet........they aren't even looking at this place or so I was told. I also know that there's a possibility that a Huddle House and hotel are coming on US19S near Home Depot. So the area is growing........of course, our commissioners well I wish that they would use common sense when it comes to running this county, if I ran my home the way they run this county I would be bankrupt in a heartbeat. Newest and brillent suggestion on there parts, auction off the homes that they bought for way too much money, who in there right minds will buy a house that they have to move, alot of those homes are 20 yrs old or more. Good grief Charlie Brown, what are they thinking. ![]()
Last edited by Keeper; 01-11-2008 at 10:03 AM.. Reason: answer the post but don't insult poster |

Already nestled in and enjoying it all?
HAH! Unless you're retiring to Spring HELL from the BRONX- don't expect to be sending postcards from your new bungalow!! Please. I got out and my intent is to help others from making the same mistake I made of moving there! The real estate market speaks for itself. Houses that are a real STEAL!! No kidding, the neighbors will STEAL from you the second you step your Jimmy Choos into the lanai. That whole area should be rescued by the red cross. Supporting these businessess will result in more good things coming to the area. Write companies you want to see set up there. Lucky to those who are already housed and settled in. They have first dibs on enjoying all.
|

ZOIE!! At least he speaks the truth to save others from making a costly, life altering mistake that involves their whole family!! People who come down on vacation, enjoy the warm weather and decide to go back home, quit their jobs, pack up everything to move to Spring HELL? The schools are HORRID. The economy is terrible. They will barely afford Walmart- so the long trek to the mall will no longer be a huge issue, since once they move to Spring Hell they will no longer be able to afford the mall!! Good thing there's a dollar movie theater--- same reason! Tell the truth- save people before they uproot their entire lives to move to this God forsaken town. I can't even speak the word "spring hill" it leaves a bad taste on my tongue... kind of like the smell you walk through going into the Circle K... Spring Hell/ Land of Smokers.

Maybe you can enlighten us with what you found wrong with Spring Hill, I've been told coutless times that there's no crime here, compared to other counties and I'm beginning to see others who don't think this place is paradise, I'd like to hear your views, I've been here many years and I like to hear what other people think of the area.

First things first- the economy is PATHETIC!! Um isn't it bad all over the country right now?? There are NO new businesses to support this area. Why is it then that everytime i go there i see a new shopping center being built? Have you SEEN the BROWN lawns in the summer months?: Does Drought and conserving water mean anything to you? I'd rather see brown lawns vs overwatered lush green grass myself. I wonder how green your grass stays all summer long. I also wrote to books-A-million/barnes & noble/borders and was told by all three that the education level and household income is not here in Hernando Cty yet........ Oh come on... I find it hard to believe that they would discriminate based on the educational level of the people who live there. These kinds of stores would attract people from other towns as well. I'd like to see the actual proof from them stating that was their reason. I'd like to say my husband has lived in Spring Hill since he was age 6 and his family is still there. He graduated top of his class in high school and has now recieved the highest achievement possible in Automotive technology. Sure times have changed but gosh, for someone who is considering moving to Spring hill and they read your post surely would probably feel quite depressed of how you claim it to be. You make it sound like that's the worst place on earth to live. Drugs, child molestors, abandoned run down homes, brown lawns etc. Name one town that you won't find any of this kind of stuff in. I hope you were just having a bad day when you posted this because you sure sound miserable and maybe you can sell your home to someone who actually wants to live there as long so you can find happiness somewhere else. |

I read that the new shopping center next to JCPenny is getting a bookstore. Not sure which one though, as well as an big electronics store and some other things.
I moved to Spring Hill 2 years ago from NY and while there are many things I dont care for, I wouldnt bash it completely. I moved into a sub-division thinking it would have a better class of people but that isnt 100% true since many of the homes are rented out to people who are not my cup of tea. If I had to do it all over again would I pick this area?...No probably not; but I'm here now as well as my parents and in-laws and I can only hope the area improves. I do believe schools are getting better, the area is getting built up. My husband and I are lucky, we both found jobs with good income & we do well without having to drive to Tampa on a daily basis. |

Along with new shopping centers comes more people and more traffic, Cortez Blvd is bumper to bumper traffic and we need some relief from the traffic. The new shopping center by JC Penney will probably bring stores that we now travel to Pasco or Hillsborough ctys. More jobs for our young people, and for those that need a job. I was at Friendly's Carwash today, usually I see teens/young adults wiping the cars and getting nice and shiny. Today though I saw middle-aged women doing the same work, things are rough out there and I suppose to make ends meet you'll take a job for the sake of having a job.
Having my last daughter graduate last year from a local school, I still think she could have done better with her education, and while she got a scholarship to an out of state school, I still think there is room for improvement, there is always room for improvement. I watch and listen to my two granddaughters and they seem to be doing very well at Challanger the teachers seem to be doing a good job. I hope that the school board continues to hold everyone accountable to give our children the education they will need to become better adults. My main concern has always been and will continue to be crime and although people say there is crime everywhere, I continue to be concerned, after a conversation with a deputy from Hernando Cty he simple stated "we're outnumbered". With a poor economy comes crime, people will do whatever they have to do to eat or put a roof over their head. As a victim of a recent crime I've sat in the courtrooms for hours listening to cases, it scares me to death to hear what is going on in this county, I don't want a member of my family hurt/killed because of drugs, I don't want people breaking into my home and causing me grief. Spring Hill was once a sleepy little retirement community, its changed, its called progress, and I'm all for progress but at what price? |
