I have lived in the Spring Hill area since 1986. Spring Hill is a good area in my opinion, even though I now live in the northern Royal Highlands section of Weeki Wachee (next town up). I am 30 years old now, and went to school here since the 4th grade. I thought the schools were just fine. I was pretty popular in school and I still am in contact with many of my old classmates today, thanks to myspace. Most of them still live in the area too. If it is so bad here then why would roughly 75% or more still live in the area?
Also, about the insurance dilemma. While there have been instances of sinkholes opening up, the majority of the so-called sinkholes are due to money hungry, check chasers willing to go through the headache of getting a lawyer to claim a sinkhole. They do this to get their mortgages paid off. I sadly know several people who have done this. And guess where they still live? The SAME house that they claimed was "unsafe" due to settling issues (cracks in sidewalk / driveway / stucco ect). Every 5th billboard on US 19 is a law firm wanting your business regarding sinkholes. It's a huge scam and it's gotten out of hand in western Hernando and Pasco counties. I do know one person who actually had a sinkhole open up under her house. She had the sinkhole repair people come out and fill the hole and she still lives in the house. The insurance industry has tightened up on the so-called total loss claims, so hopefully within the next couple of years the insurance dilemma will get better. Expect to pay about $2,000-$2,500 premium for the average 1,500-2000sf home. Shopping choices here are great. You can travel to Tampa in less than an hour. Many great restaurants that are not chains. The beach and Weeki Wachee river are about a ten to fifteen minute drive away. All in all, I think it's a great place to live for the price. That's why I still live here. |

Lets see, I was on Cotez Blvd. today at around 1:30 PM sitting at the light at Sunshine Grove Rd. I was the third car, with at least 10 cars behind me. Plus both lanes were filled with cars. Got to the light at the new Coastal shopping center across from Walmart and the traffic was backed up to Sunshine Grove Rd. Of course if you take pictures from US 19 up to Mariner Blvd. there is a chance that traffic will be light, but go take pictures at mid day anywhere from noon on from Mariner to Sunshine Grove Rd. And of course, the DOT has it as a "F" which means failing road. And will be widening the road eventually.
I guess the DOT is wrong too. Last edited by Songbird42; 01-12-2008 at 02:20 PM.. Reason: added information |

I too think the traffic is busy but it's always moving at a steady pace. It's not like i'm usually stuck waiting for 2 or 3 lights to turn and when i go out that way it's up Hwy 50 from Brooksville and then on down Mariner. Again, it's a busy road but rolls smoothly.

Sure sometimes traffic will back up but you will get that anywhere. I will be coming back along Cortez around 4:30 today and I will take more pictures as you asked. Thats if the traffic isn't moving to quickly for me to take them. |

Well seeing as it rained from about 11:30 to about 2:30PM I'm sure that the roads won't be that full, but thank you anyway.

That's about what the traffic looked like when I drove up to check out the area, also during rush hour. To me, Spring Hill reminded me of old Florida, before it was so built up. |
