Feather Sound has excellent schools. Frontier Elementary and Oak Grove Middle School are both "A" rated schools, The high school is Clearwater High and it's a "B" rated school but has a long tradition of being a good school. Safety Harbor's schools are equally excellent (A-rated)and the high school, Clearwater Countryside is also a "B" school. Rather than Largo I would recommend neighboring Seminole where the schools are on par with SE Clearwater (Feather Sound) or Safety Harbor/NE Clearwater. St Petersburg schools are good in areas, and would most recommend the Northeast St Petersburg district that feeds to Northeast High School. I'm not familiar with the schools on the other side of the Bay.

You can find homes for rent and for sale using Realtor.com. I like this site because it will show you what the school is rated that the home is assigned to by greatschools.org. This really helped us narrow down our neighborhoods and home to look at when we were looking for a place to rent. Be sure to read the parent reviews on the schools as well. I try to stick to schools that are ranked 7 or higher with good reviews/comments.

South Tampa schools will outbeat all of the schools in the areas you mentioned. The Hillsborough county school district is much better then Pinellas. I would check out the greatschools website and also each school district's website...they all will give you much needed information.

I do use greatschools web site, not every school is on there though. I have thought about South Tampa but just how expensive is it to live there, I would be renting at first preferrably a townhome or something with a yard??

Take a look at the Interactive Map site provided by the Pinellas County School Board: Interactive Map. It looks really helpful because it overlays on top of Google Maps so you're able to see school assignments on a street-by-street basis. The schools assigned to parts of NE St Pete look like they're somewhere in the middle. I might be willing to make that trade-off, however, to avoid living in suburbia, surrounded by sprawl (by that's just me).

I would like to stay around $1000.00 for a rental. Is that going to be enough to be in a safe area there?
