I wouldn't count on getting an IT job right now. You can find what you are looking for in S. Tampa area. I agree with CraigM.. too many folks come here and are unhappy because they are so far from fun places.

There is still something to be said by living 'close' to a city but not in it. I've always been a fan of suburbs. Close enough to be near the action but not have to live IN the action.

Wow I just did some more research on South Tampa Westshore area and found an apt cheaper than the ones in Brandon and Riverview, also car ins rate will be a lot cheaper there compared to Brandon, must be less crime area or somethin, but anyway Westshore is looking like my top choice for now with Riverview as a backup plan. I will drive through both towns when I visit to see what they look like.

westshore is tampa, just another area. It is geographically south Tampa, just runs along the west Side of town against the Tampa bay. I tend to include up to international plaza mall in the westshore area as that is where westshore blvd stops. There are a bunch of new condos near the mall that technically fall in carver city/lincoln gardens, but aren't really part of it as carver city and lincoln gardens are Lower class neighborhoods. Not crime ridden, but crappy.

When I called to see how much car insurance would cost for that zip code the ins agent recommended I move to Lakeland or Plant City. Those are further inland than Brandon, I dont know why he picked those cities.

I think he was worried that the car ins rate would be too high in Tampa but it was actually much lower than last time I called them when I gave them a Brandon, FL zip code.

This. It's illegal to open an "adult store" in whatever county Lakeland is in. Outside of that, there's even less there than there is in Brandon, Riverview, etc... And Plant City... Just build yourself a tree house in the woods. You'll fit right in.

As I said... If you want to live near Tampa, live IN Tampa. It costs no more than Brandon, and is a LOT nicer.
