Considering it was 2:48 am, his BAC was extremely low. God knows my BAC has been at significantly higher at that time of night.
Why did they pick him up? Did he pass the breathalyzer? I would hate to think people are getting arrested for suspected DUI if they are under the limit. I've driven after a glass of wine with dinner... never more than that because I'm a lightweight... and I know I'm far below the limit.

As an ex-military member, I was so cautious about getting DUIs while in the military, it was ridiculous. Too much to lose (military career, pension, embarassment/humiliation to my command) Spent most of my time overseas where the police (Germany) are everywhere looking for DUIs.

I don't see why the Bucs don't go beyond the call of duty and mentor the hell out of these young millionaires - to the point where they have their own taxi service for their players like the Jets do in NYC.

Without Mike Williams, the Bucs are a very different team.

He could have been weaving or unsafe. Might have been marijuana. He provided a urinalysis.

True. I forget about the other drug factor.

He looked visibly impaired. The TBO article states you could get a DUI from taking nyquill and that most cops already make the determination if you are going to get arrested or not before you even blow into the breathalizer.

Why in the world do these millionaire athletes put themselves in the position to be arrested? They have so much to lose (suspension, loss of salary, embarrassment to the city/team, letting fellow players down, getting a bad reputation to the league) and nothing to gain.

If I were in their position, I'd be celibate, alcohol/drug free - and do nothing but work out, study film, practice hard, and sleep. If I wanted to do anything "wild" I'd wait until the season was over - then fly to the Caribbean or Vegan and have a great time.

If I were the team owner, I'd hire several counselors/mentors to keep in the ear of these immature players and get them to travel the straight and narrow. It would be worth it to the team just to keep these important players from being suspended.

The Bucs have one of their best DBs suspended for the year (Tenard Jackson), they have had Aqib Talib suspended for assaulting a taxi driver, they've cut this idiot TE Jerramy Stevens for drug possession.

This is ridiculous, especially for the Bucs who are trying to rebuild from their pathetic 3-13 2009 season.

OR... hire a driver or take a limo for the night. I make a FRACTION of what pro athletes make, and I have hired a cars for my friends and I to go out in. People drink and drive for one of two reason IMO, and only these two reasons. I am sure even a regular drunk driver knows he/she is wrong.

1. They want to save money by not having to take a cab.

2. They are poor planners and didnt intend on getting drunk. Then they dont want to leave their car somewhere because it is inconvenient the next morning, or fear it might get broken into, etc.

Pro Athletes can afford a town car for the night when they are going out. Some of these guys blow a lot of money on stupid crap, what is a few hundred bucks on a towncar for the night?

I think #2 is the most frequent problem.

Lots of California (driver's paradise, alleged by some on this board, and a whole lotta Texas too).

Of course, conviction rates and arrests only tell part of the story, since vigorous enforcement can lead to more people getting caught, but bad and drunk drivers are everywhere!

Here in West Palm, you cna get a reward for calling in a tip about drunk drivers:

Yeah, the article said Ca. is "considered the center of the fight against drunk driving" so I'm guessing these stats have a lot to do with how aggressively the laws are enforced.

There are many factors that play into drunk driver statistics. For example, places like NYC have low rates per capita, probably because of the plethora of non-car transportation options post night on the town.

However, "stepped up enforcement" alone is not the only reason. Without the problem, there is no need for enforcement.
