We are moving from midwest to Tampa area. Need advice on family area with good schools and safe neighborhoods. Looking to buy in coming months upper 2's low 3's. Would like to be close to ammenities but not in the thick of things. Any suggestions?

Is commute time a consideration? If so, where is work? Some areas can be an hour or more each way.

Several areas come to mind--if you want suburbia, then places like Lutz, Palm Harbor, NW Tampa, Brandon, Valrico, Riverview....gosh, it's almost endless! It depends on what your priorities are, such as max commute time, level of congestion, proximity to particular things (like golf or beaches), etc.

My husbands job is in North Tampa, not far from Busch Gardens. We don't really want to live right in that area but within 30-40 min commute. Initially we would like to rent something in the area that we want to buy in. Would like rent to stay below 1400/month. We don't want to be in an area that is too congested, but not so far away that you have to "drive in to town". Libraries, parks and shopping nearby would be nice. Thanks for all the feedback.

I have to assume you haven't been to Tampa, if you are asking for a place where there is no congestion.
You might want to check out Carrollwood area. Dale Mabry is a main artery but not that bad except during rush hour. You can find anything you want there plus you are not that far away from Citrus Park Mall.
I think some have recommended Temple Terrace as a good place to live, but I am not that familiar with TT, so I will leave it to others to give you there assessment.

Have you looked into Lutz(33558) as an option? There are a couple of great family communities with excellent schools. In particular, Heritage Harbor, Villarosa and Cheval. Heritage Harbor is a resort-style gated family community with a great community pool, tennis, on-site after-school program, clubhouse, tot-lot, etc. It is within the McKitrick elementary, Martinez Middle School and will have a new high school (George Steinbrenner High) in fall of 2009. You can check out greatschools.net for the stats on the schools They are within the top 7 schools in all of Hillsborough county, which is quite impressive. Villarosa is also a nice family community but does not have resort style facilities. Cheval is also very nice but may be out of your price range, depending on the square footage you would need. It would be about a 20 minute commute from your workplace. In addition these communites are a couple of minutes from the Veterans Expressway and Dale Mabry Hwy but they are tucked away in a very safe and peaceful environment.

I would either suggest as the above posters and look at the Lutz/LOL area or maybe even Wesley Chapel. It is not a far drive from Busch Gardens from any of those areas. Another idea is the Zephyrhills area. Most would say it is too far but Morris Bridge road would put him to Busch Gardens in about 30 mins with little traffic. Zephyrhills is growing quickly and has all major things you would need including a Walmart and a Lowe's. There are many nice communities there and if you want some land, you can probably find that too. Good luck in your search

Brandon isn't so bad. I have a daughter and one on the way and the schools are pretty decent here. There are things to do with the little ones and activities to put them in. Shopping is close and if you want to go to Tampa it's not too far away. It's getting congested here, but not as bad as some parts in immediate Tampa. Riverview another good suburbia area with pretty good schools. It's starting to grow...
