Thumbs down University Club is too good for fire drill!!

Tampas Verizon owned skyscraper holds a fire drill once a year to ensure the tenants of the building understand how to calmly evacuate, so in essence people aren't running in every direction unsure of how to react if there was in fact a fire. All the yuppies on the 38th floor decide not to leave as they are above everyone else, and feel it's ok to not know saftey procedures, as they'll surely be the ones that panic and mow down little kids to get to an elevator or a set of stairs. It's called the "University Club" and it's filled with Tampas chain pullers. The fire Marshal gets into a heated arguement with Tampa Generals Hospitals CEO over it, if you don't know who Ron Hytoff is, just look for the man driving the lexus with the license plate that reads TGH-CEO. Some of the story can be read here:

Posh Tampa dining club + lunchtime fire drill + city fine = indignation - St. Petersburg Times

Big effing deal... guess what- they are better than us.

I bet the TGH-CEO donated more money to charity last year then I will make in the next ten. If he doesnt want to go outside for the fire drill, who the hell cares? It is his life on the line when the building burns down. On the plus side, he'll get the best treatment at TGH.

Not exactly the logic I would've used, but yeah, more or less. I do believe that it's illegal to remain in a building after an alarm goes off, but don't quote me on that.

Hey! I have plenty of negative stuff to say about the people of tampa, but I am not going to fault people for not going outside during a fire drill. I dont go outside my apartment when the real fire alarm is going off.

This thread was just made because the people that didnt go outside are "privelaged". What people fail to realized about the privelaged, is that they put themselves there by getting an education, working hard, and reaping the benifits of a free-market capitalistic society.

I felt like the privelaged/social elite were being attacked by the same new member who is adamantly standing up for the homeless in another thread, when in reality, if a bunch of homeless people didnt evacuate the shelter when the alarm went off, he wouldnt have posted a thread about it.

I unclearly defended these people by suggesting they do make a positive contribution to society. They have done more for society than I have, therefore that makes them better.

I really should have just taken the standpoint of "who cares" and mentioned that the OP was picking on people because they are privelaged.

Algia- I will say this though... when I was in college, I valet parked cars. the wealthy people were the WORST tippers!

I guess it's just the egalitarian inside of me, but I think everybody needs to evacuate during an alarm. That or pay the fine.

I agree they should evacuate or pay the fine I guess. Does the egalitarian inside of you think anything about the fact that this is only an issue because of who they are? You know if people didnt evacuate section 8 housing during a fire alarm, that article, or this thread wouldnt even exist. It was only brought up because they are important players in the Tampa Bay communities, and people generally envy those who have what they dont have. money, social status, lifestyle, etc. I wonder if a fire drill in a public building housing a non-profit organization working with the homeless would result in any fines... What's good for the goose, right?

Eh, stay, go, we all die eventually, walking outside during a practice run isn't going to change that. Especially since most people will act completely different if a tragedy were to occur.

Hilarious. These people are the same ones who won't have enough sense to rub two sticks together when SHTF in their lives. They'll be trying to buy their way out of problems with worthless federal reserve notes. LOL
