I agree; something just is a little "off" when it pertains to Jax Beaches, and Jacksonville proper. I hated it, and moved after just a few months. Tampa is a much, much better city- and, lots more to do!

Checkout downtown which can get kinda quiet at night/Jacksons on Harbour Island/Channelside/Ybor. You can get a daypass I think on the trolley and cover them all. Stay at the Marriott Waterside if that works for you. You can drive or bus to Hyde Park and snoop South Tampa. Clearwater or St Pete beaches.

I lived in Jax for around 10 years. At the time I thought it was great because I spent 20 years prior growing up in a sleepy area of central FL where even the most resourceful of folks would get bored. Also I try to be an optimist and made the best of what Jax had to offer. That being said, I personally like the Bay area better.

As huge of a geographic area as Jax is, much of it is the same. There are a few unique areas of course, but I personally think there is more to do in the Bay area *regardless* of what you like to do.

However, I don't find the two areas to be polar opposites by any means. The people and demographics are similar and both areas have their share of negatives. I could see someone who is happy in Jax being happier in Tampa (not as a rule, but as a possibility.) OTOH if you are burned out in Jax after 8 months, Tampa might not do it for you either...

You didn't say whether you like Dallas or not. Perhaps if you were fond of Dallas, some folks familiar with both Texas and FL could give you more advice on some place appropriate. The only other place that comes to mind is Orlando or Fort Lauderdale, but I'm not very familiar with Dallas.

Thanks,
Yes I liked Dallas as a city, but there wasn't the beach. What I liked was you never had to go more then 2 or 3 miles to get just about anything you wanted. There was always something going on just about every weekend. It has all the major sports teams. Yes I'm also thinking of Fort Lauderdale area.

Well I will say that things are really spaced out in the Tampa area in general, but if you live in the right part of Tampa, you could be in close vicinity to lots of things within 2 or 3 miles. I think Tampa is the best city in the state of Florida for working professionals that love the beach and to have fun! I dont care for South Florida at all. Consider the climate and hurricane possibilities when considering South FL. I know they could hit any part of FL, but they are more prone.
