My wife and I and 8mos old baby are moving to the tampa area and have narrowed our search to Land O Lakes...we think?? This is based on the fact that it is convenient to my work. We are both RN's. I will be transferring to a facility in either Carrollwood, Zephyrhills, or Brooksville(all within 30miles of LOL). Also, in doing some research, LOL seems to have decent schools and it seems to be a nice, quiet, family-oriented, and growing place to raise a family. Is this accurate??? Any body have any advice for us? We obviously want to make a smart decision for our family. We have looked at homes in Connerton, Wilderness Lake Preserve, Asbel Creek. Any advice or opinions please would be a huge help!!

Looked at LOL when we were looking at places to live. Yes, it is a nice family friendly area and is suburbia. You also get a lot of house for your money. Do yourself a favor. Pick a few different areas that seem alright and spend some time looking at homes to rent in these areas before committing on a single spot.

I had originally thought Riverview would be a good fit for me. Once I drove through I immediately knew it was not. LOL was good and we had decided on two different homes there to rent until we visited the suncoast.

Thanks so much for the advice! We have definitely taken into consideration renting for a while and getting a better feel for the area. That is probably the smartest choice, it is just so hard once you start looking since like you said you get a lot of house for the money and real estate is so cheap now! We are just ready to buy a home rather than feeling like we are throwing our money away renting. When you said "suncoast," where is that referring to??? We checked out Riverview too...not for us either.

Kash is over in Seminole. Pull up a google map and look between St Pete and Clearwater.

For some reason I am not a fan of LoL either. We have looked in all the areas around Tampa and did not like New Port Richey or Land O Lakes.

Take his advice, go down and drive around before committing to anything.
Rent, do not buy for your first year.

We liked LOL but the Suncoast feels like the Florida we envisioned. It causes me to have a long commute, but hey.... some things are worth it. Now that we are getting serious about buying a house I have been trying to persuade DW to look at LOL since it is family oriented and you can get newer, larger homes. She's not interested. She would rather have an older, smaller home in this area.

The DW is a smart cookie. You're living in a place that feels like Florida, which is probably why you moved here!

for some reason you didn't like it- what were your main complaints?
I have a job offer there, but I don't want to rent there if its lame lol. I mean is there a nearby area that is good for a 20 something liberal couple with no kids?

My single piece of advice would be to not be overly swayed by getting "more house for your money". This is the oldest boondoggle in world. Do not be distracted by the shiny jewelry that they swing in front of your face. Look at the whole picture. Many people realize, after the fact, that they didn't really need a 3000 sq. ft. house and would have been much happier in an area with more "community" and less isolation. Yes, I am biased.... you couldn't pay me enough to live in LOL. But I know plenty of suburbia-friendly people here who admit that they were not prepared for the extreme nature of that lifestyle in the Tampa area. Many also regret not paying more, even for less house, in a more vibrant area.

LOL has become a wonderful place to live. Many changes in the past 3 years, all positive. I highly recommend anyone wanting to live close to the city but wants living in a more green area.

We drove through all areas of the LOL area. LOL, Wesley Chapel, Trinity, Lutz, and everything in between during our search of the area (we are moving to the area from NY). I also wasn't too crazy about the LOL honestly. As an outsider being there for the first time, it just seemed a bit "old" and rundown. I am sure there are nice areas that I just simply didn't see, but the whole LOL area in general rubbed me the wrong way.

Just my opinion.
