Hi

We are coming to the Tampa/St-pete/Clearwater area in mid-April and are wondering if we will be able to swim in the gulf?
My wife does not tolerate as cooler water as me and is usually out before me but I don't like artic cold either.

Thanks

Patrick & Kris

Maybe. The water is still a little chilly. However, if you are in shallow areas and it's really warm you may be able. In the area the two best beaches are Fort Desoto and St Pete Beach. Clearwater is ok also. But it usually has a lot of traffic. Visit this link Water temperature | Gulf of Mexico. Have a nice vacation.

Chances are the temp will be high 70s low 80s so even if the water is a little chilly you'll be able to swim in it quite comfortably. I swim in the gulf in December and January on hot days, and I'm no Polar Bear. It's probably warmer than you'd expect in April.

Enjoy your visit!!

Depends on how cold it's been around the time you plan on coming down.

According to NOAA, the April averages in the Eastern Gulf are in the 70s. Link here --> US NODC Coastal Water Temperature Guide
