I have had a hard time finding a fresh fish market that is NOT upscale and expensive that sells fresh fish anywhere. Fish markets are bountiful in South GA and you would think that they would be here too but I have not found one yet. Do they exist?

Good question, NALEXAND-- I'd like to find the same, preferably a non-chain that is populated by local fishermen.

There are several around Tampa but not really local fishermen.
I use to go to Matassini's on N. Blvd but there are other places.

Actually Publix does buy fish from local fishermen at certain stores.
There is a good fish market in Tarpon Springs too.

I don't know of any place where locals take their fish to sell everyday. Maybe the farmer's market on E. Hillsborough

Thanks all for the recommendations. I have been buying fresh fish at Publix but it is much more expensive than I would like. :/

Fish Tail Seafood Market in S. Tampa on Himes and Gandy has fish right off the boats. I think it's what you are looking for.
