We are looking for a newer home in a safe area. Preferable a community that offers amenities like walking/biking trails. Pretty pool. Clubhouse with nice gym and a restaurant or bar. Hopefully no more than 30 minutes to beaches.

What communities would fit the bill? It is so overwhelming searching online. We have a brother in St. Petersburg, cousins in Clearwater, a good friend in Waumama (sp?) and a few friends a bit further north in one of the Pt. Richey and I believe Dunedin.

This is all foreign to me as I have spent years researching Orlando and the surrounding areas.....

I don't think we are interested in over 55 places.

ANY suggestions would be appreciated. We have rented for a year in Central Florida and can take our time looking.

Thank you

Sounds like Westchase, Town n Country, Oldsmar, would be ideal for you (Upper Tampa Bay Trail).

There's also the Pinellas Trail but not many "newer" homes along unless you can find a spot near Dunedin or Northern Pinellas.

Good Luck!

Have a look at Waterset and next door to it, Covington Park, both in Apollo Beach. They may be a little over 30 min to a good beach - Anna Maria Island - and about 30 min to Ft. De Soto Park.

In your case, can't go wrong with Dunedin.

I agree, but don't come here, you won't like it.

When you say "community", do you mean a gated group of houses? Condo? If you want a pool, it'll have to be something like that, unless you buy a home with your own pool. As for hiking trails there are plenty of these in Pinellas, and there's the Pinellas Trail for biking plus some others. The community won't have them, though. I have looked at the area up near John Chestnut Sr. Park off Eastlake in Tarpon. There's some nice houses up there, but don't know about pools. Lovely walking and biking in that park--lots of wildlife.

isn't "young retired" an oxymoron.

Not at all. Someone takes job at 22 and retires with a full pension at age 52.

Or someone enlists at 17 and retires at 37.

(Considering that Uncle Sam dictates your life 24/7, 20 years military equals more than 60 civilian years.)

I hear you. I went in at 17 but did not re up basically due to that 24/7 control factor. I often wondered if I should have hung in there. Several of my friends went military after high school. Some stayed 20+. More of them didnt stay in and took civil service jobs and did 30 years and retired and picked up other jobs. Ive seen NYC cops do 20 there and then come down here, join the sheriffs' department or got into corrections. They will retire at about age 60 and have both pensions.
