We are a young family with 2 kids (7 & 4) and might be moving to the Tampa area soon if my husband takes a job at Plant City. We are looking for a safe, family friendly area where we can rent at first while we get a feel for the area. We homeschool, so schools are not a concern. Any advice on where we should start our search?

Thank you!

If you live out in Plant City, I hope you are fluent in Spanish. Check out Carrollwood, Temple Terrace, New Tampa, Seminole Heights, and Tampa Heights. You need provide more info like price range, amenities, neighborhood, and etc you want.

We homeschool too! I LOVE Valrico/Riverview and it's not all that far from Plant City . We moved here a couple years ago and have young children as well. We have a "hometown" kind of feel out here but still city ease. There are a lot of homeschool families from Brandon out to Plant City.

Why live in Tampa if you're working all the way in Plant City!? Brandon would be closer for sure than Riverview but you could avoid a long commute every day by finding a place right there I am sure there are plenty.

We do have someone who lives in Plant City who posts here.. try doing a search this forum for Plant City. I agree with Algia on this one, you don't want to live in Carrollwood , New Tampa or even Seminole Heights unless you don't mind a long commute.

There are some OK areas. Many of the houses were older homes. I thought there were some newer homes nearby though.

If you need help with the search DM me..

I'd look in Walden Lakes area before heading to Tampa. There is something for every budget. Why not live in PC if you work there?

Agreed you need to look within a 5 to 8 mile radius of your husband's employment. Traffic is horrible here during rush hour. In addition to Walden Lakes in Plant City, you should also look around Lake Weeks in Seffner (along Kingsway) and newer subdivisions in north and east Valrico.

Thanks for all the responses. We were looking outside of Plant City because we were told by my husband's soon-to-be employer that it was not a good area and to look in the Tampa Area for housing. My husband's new job will require quite a bit of traveling and less time in the Plant City office. Basically we want a family friendly area with a commute that's not a killer where I can feel safe by being alone with the kids most of the time. Thank you!

*Shrug* - I like Walden Lakes. The polo matches were fun to watch. Best group of dog owners I've ever been around that met every day for pooch playtime.

I prefer Tampa but if I worked in PC I'd live there.

You'll want to look into Brandon/Valrico. It's closer to Plant City and is def a family area. Plus you'll be closer to things like the theatre and mall. It's about a 15-30 min. Drive depending in where you live. Valrico would be the closest.
