Thanks for all the info. I've saved it in my keeper file, just in case I consider buying.

If you are stuck w/ only one company that will insure you, say on an older home, that also would seem to put you even more at their mercy cost-wise. Nevermind gradual rises either, but I have seen serious jumps, like overnight. That kind of volatility I think is dangerous.

Best to pay cash and be free of getting ripped off every year for something you don't need.

Golly gee, indeed it would be nice if everyone could pay cash for their home, but many of us can't. Some of my friends are just happy to see their adult children earn enough to move out and live on their own...much less buy a home for cash What's more, I can't think of many investors who want to risk hundreds of thousands, or millions of dollars of their own money in one of the most unstable housing markets in the country. As we've seen from the housing crash, it's a lot easier to risk someone else's money than your own...

I really feel sorry for those in FL who have a home for sale. It's one of the worst housing markets for sellers in the entire country and the insurance companies add insult to injury by making what could be a very enticing market downright ugly to those considering buying and just learning about the insurance policies and regulations in Florida.

This one has nothing to do with insurance competition, it has to do with Rick Scott giving huge campaign contributions back to some of his biggest supporters, this is awful

I know all about selling a home since i sold my home on the gulf this last fall.

Paid 600k in 04 and sold it for 220k. The Ins would cost someone 16k a year.

West Pasco county has the highest Ins cost in the country. Just to insure a 25k 2bedroom shoebox home is 3k + a year. Someone could go bare for 7 years and save enough money to buy another shoebox home.

Ins has been a rip well before Rick Scott took office.

As a potential home buyer I have several homes that I am interested in. How would I go about getting insurance quotes on them in order to determine which properties that are economically feasible before putting down an offer?

You should clarify if you are basically on the water. The majority of homes don't have rates anything like you claim in Pasco.
