Hello people
so we just moved to Tampa this week and looking for housing (apartments to rent). My husband is working in Macdill so we are looking for something close (max commute 35 min). We were thinking of $1000 for 2 bedrooms, but after looking I guess we decided we can go for $1300 max. What do you guys think of the Westchase area? we saw a nice townhouse in a complex BUT lots f lizards I know its Fl and i should get used to them, but they freak me out.
what would be a nice neighborhood to live in? clean, no crime?
how about downtown?
we don't have kids...
Thanks in advance

Westchase is a very nice area.
The lizards don't harm anybody, they will eat all the other bugs around. This is summer so they are all out now. They are more scared of you than you are of them.

South Tampa would be your primary area to look at, since it's close to MacDill and you can find nice places in your price range. Downtown is a little dead and have only few areas that are nice, mostly high rises. Check out Davis island next to DT, it's a nice area too.

Thank you guys. How about North Tampa? near the airport? we find nice place with nice price and my husband was like whats the catch? it seemed a quit area but you know we cant get a final picture. I think the proper question would be what are the areas that we should avoid in Tampa, if any?
Thanks in advance

most areas around the airport arent that great. I wouldnt call it bad but if your looking at wetschase, its a step or 2 down for sure. I personally like the citrus park, carrollwood, northdale areas. There are so many apartments all over town that fit your price range though

Channelside has tons of stuff for rent in that range. South Tampa would be a bit shorter drive.

I would stay south of 275.

in the upper part of your range you can skip an apartment and rent a house in the area. check zillow.com.

Westchase is a great area and some parts of Town N country aren't too bad but some apts have lots of problems. You need to ask or put close locations for more info.

There are some apts off of Courtney Campbell on Tampa Bay and also around International mall. There are good and bad areas in all parts of Tampa.

If you are trying to stay close to the 30 minute commute it is going to be difficult depending on the hours if you live any place other than S. Tampa area.

Just remember don't rely on just one person's opinion as there are always those that are not happy where they live.

Ask the good folks here. You will get a variety of opinions and for the most part, we all are pretty much on the same page.

Thanks all. I really appreciate it. We got a place and we are renting, hopefully things go well at least we learn about the area now.
