Thyroid Dr in Tampa (suite, endocrinologists, office)

Can anyone reccommend a good Thyroid Dr in the Tampa area?

What kind of "thyroid" doctor? Are you referring to an endocrinologist or someone dealing with the Ear/Nose/Throat side...?

I have hashimotis and would like a dr that doesn't just go by the book but is willing to try other things.

Good luck with that, i'm on doc #2 and he is just as much as a moron as my first endo for that. I also have hashimoto/hypothroid and so far both docs I've seen here are WAY too far in the books (IE: TSH at 3.0 instead of 1.0 or less) and dosing based on weight not TSH levels. Ugh.

I googled this doc and she is not an endo. People with thyroid conditions are better suited for endos who deal with that.

I thought you just use an Internal Medicine Dr., that's who's been treating me....but I'm in Citrus so too far away fro a suggestion.

You can, but endocrinologists are better suited for thyroid diseases (such as Hashimotos). Regular MDs tend to be by the book and only treat to 5.0 or 3.0 TSH which is old standards. The more aggressive docs really will go to 1.0 or under and that's really the way to go, most people with thyroid conditions dont feel well until 1.0.

If you have thyroid issues (IE nodules, goiter, cancer), you will be referred to an endocrinologist anyway so for me, its just easier to see one off the bat unless you can find a thyroid aggressive MD. The endo i just saw last week really didnt impress me, although he did have an ultrasound machine IN office and they do blood work IN office, so that's atleast a plus (except you have to go to zephyrhills for that stuff) but they do have a Tampa location for regular checkups/visits. My previous Endo didnt even bother to have an ultrasound, this one did it right then and there and found a 1cm nodule on my thyroid. I go back for a biopsy to see if its cancerous next week. Finding a *GOOD* endo is hard to do since they normally deal with diabetes patients on a day to day basis but their scope also covers the thyroid.

Thanks for the info. I'm new to this thyroid problem and I'm supposed to be taking 1 .150 MG a day for the hypo variety. I forget to take it more than I do take it and haven't really been taking this whole thing seriously because it doesn't seem to affect the way I feel either way.
