Relocation & Jobs
Hi all,
I have a quick question....where is the best place to find companies that will support relocation?
Or....
How do you find jobs that will accept candidates from other cities relocating to Tampa Bay?
Thank you,
Alexandra

Not too many companies in these days will pay to relocate a new hire, unless you're in a very in-demand industry or management position. That seems to hold true for most parts of the country, not just Florida.

I phrased myself the wrong way...I didn't mean for them to pay for my relocation, I meant to agree to my October moving date.

I'm lost (but then, I'm blonde too) - are you getting offers from employers, then having them not want to hold the job open until October?

LOL,
No, we plan to move there at the beginning of October (maybe the 1st), but I don't know what to do about getting a job, if I apply now, most will not even give me a chance because of my moving date, then if we do move, and I am not finding a job, someone has to pay the rent!?
So, I am not sure how to coordinate this, and find a job that will allow me to start in October.
Help?

In your case, your best bet is to just move out there and either to stay with a friend or rent a room for a month or two until you find employment (saves a lot of $$$). Then you can look for a real apartment. Also gives you time to decide if you really like the area or not.

I'd say don't move then until you have enough money saved up to cover about 3 months of unemployment. Most places won't rent to you without a job and most employers won't look at you until you are actually there. Catch 22. Only way around it really is just to save up and short term lease.
How far are you moving from? An hour? 12 hours? That would also be good to know.

First, what industry are you in or what type of job are you looking for? Some jobs are easier to find in a short period of time than others.
Second, no one will rent you a place unless you are employed and some even specify local employment. Third, are you married? If you are renting an apartment and you are not married, you and your significant other have to individually qualify for the rent. If you are married, then only one has to qualify.
Fourth, have you done any research on the area? Are you moving to Tampa proper or are you looking at Clearwater or St. Pete. It's a big area and there are differences in the neighborhoods and types of jobs available in the different areas. Commutes here can be miserable if you live too far from work.
Fifth, why on earth are you moving to another state without jobs lined up when you have three kids to be responsible for? I'm not trying to be rude, just curious.

My family would also like to move to Tampa but have been on an "ONLINE JOB HUNT" for 6 weeks now and from the responses of the employers, I could tell that the "relocation" //out of state address is ruining my opportunities. I am confident that If I was in Tampa, that I would have been hired by now.
However, although we have money saved---my husband refuses to leave until one of us have a job offer! Meaning, we probably WILL NEVER LEAVE!! Even the Temp Agencies in Tampa says, "call us when you get here".
With that said, I agree with the other posts. Save at least 3 months worth of income--then move. This way you can search for a "good" job & not just take "anything". Good luck to you
