I'm moving to Florida next month. I've trying to figure out which city would be best for me. I'm in my early 30's and I do still enjoy the nightlife. I will be working from home, so finding a job isn't an issue. Does anyone have experience with living in both cities? Any pros or cons for either city? I know all cities have crime, so i'm not that concerned with that aspect.

Fort Lauderdale's more of a partying city. It's even nicknamed Fort Liquordale.

I used to live in the Tampa Bay area, and hope to be able to return there soon. Right now I'm near the east coast of FL (Boynton Beach) and life just "felt" better in the Tampa Bay area. People seemed a lot friendlier and more relaxed in the 'west coast' area. I miss it. Coming here to Boynton Beach was a learning experience and has made me appreciate the layout, lifestyle, and people of the TB area more.

I'd go with Tampa Bay area (specifically Wesley Chapel because it's the nicest out of the ones I have experience with) if I were you. :]

There's nightlife, crime and safer areas in both places. All 3 will just cost you more in Fort Lauderdale.

Crime costs more in Ft Lauderdale? Do Tampa criminals only take half of the money in your wallet?

wesley chapel is about 30-45 mins from tampa depending on traffic. it's more of a suburban area than anything else. there was a lot of development there when the housing market was booming here so there's lots of subdivisions, but not the night life it sounds like you're looking for. i've traveled to the fort lauderdale area many times, but have lived in tampa my whole life. tampa has a lot to offer. there's a lot of nightlife (ybor city, channelside, south tampa) just to name a few, close to beaches. the downtown is experiencing a revitalization and there are some new condos and apartments popping up all over. a lot of people also like downtown st. pete. you might want to check that out. it's right on the water (like downtown tampa) but it's been a popular place to live and work for a while. tampa is also centrally located and easier to get to other parts of florida (especially orlando)

Crime is much higher in Ft. Lauderdale and it's surrounding suburbs. Plus you have hit and run criminals from Miami and it's suburbs and places like Clewiston robbing you and your property and driving back to the lawless badlands with impunity.

You couldnt pay me to live in SouthEast Florida South of Boca Raton

Is Tampa really like a southern city? I've heard that a lot about Tampa, that it's too southern.

"southern?" I have never heard Tampa described as a southern city. In fact, Florida is not really like the deep south at all. We have a lot of northerners who have transplanted here. It is hard to find a native Floridian. Most people in Tampa are not originally from Florida.
