Hello All,

Now that I have your attention. I really could use your help as I am relocating to Tampa in 60 days. I will be working at MacDill from 8-12 hours per day and I don't want to commute more than 45 minutes. My budget is $220,000 - $270,000 and I would like a new construction. However, I am willing to purchase a home no more than 5 years old. I love to bike or run in the morning or evening. That said, safety is one of my main concerns. I don't care about schools as I will be living alone with my pooch. If you could please tell me where the nice communities are I will be forever grateful! Cheers!

There are hundreds of threads on this very topic. Please perform a search and read them; just as the sticky at the beginning of this thread states. Good luck with your search.

There have been a lot of people asking similar questions (MacDill commute, where to live, etc).

There probably are a lot of threads on the subject via CDF search.

Feathersound Subdivision (across the Gandy) might be something you'd be interested in or Westchase. Davis Islands may also be a possibilty. There are real estate agents here that probably that could make other suggestions.

Hundreds of comments on this area, like kb states. Look at all of them around McDill and you will see all the opinions about everything out there.

Good luck with your move!!

OP - Don't buy yet. Rent for a year first. You should be able to find a house that allows dogs without a problem.

Westchase or Davis Island. South Tampa if you can find it within your budget but stay north of Gandy.

Westchase only because it's suburban and still a do-able commute.

Whatever you do- avoid the Brandon-Valrico-Riverview area due to the commuting time . I hated driving to MacDill from those locations and discourage it at all costs.

For the record, I have searched the message board. Most people in my situation wanted to rent house or apartment. Or they were out of my price range. Anyhoo, thanks for the advice. I will look into those area. GoRays thanks for the Valrico information as I was looking for homes in that area. Cheers!

i am looking for an extended stay hotel. Dont know whether or not I am going to move there permanently, so I thought a 1 month stay in a long-term would help me while I decide

I too think you might want to rent first for several reasons. One if you are someone who likes 'night life' then S. Tampa is where you would want to live in order to meet other professionals. If you could care less about night life then you do have other options however the commute time is going to be a big issue at times. There are very few 'new' homes in S. Tampa and even in other areas the new homes are going to be pushing more than 45 min commute in many cases. Westchase or Citrus Park are both nice areas but again depending on when you work you might be pushing the commute time.

Fish Hawk ranch or Valrico are both great areas but I am not sure you can find a home that is only 5 years old in either place. Riverview has newer homes that would work but it is a family area.

You might find a condo in your price range in S. Tampa but it won't be new either.
