I agree with the statement that it's a choice. I was referring to non retiree communities.

Not sure i would personally choose to move to a place where everyone i see is old. I'd find it rather depressing.

Dang! Well, that's why we have 55+ communities, to prevent younger folks from getting depressed looking at their future.

Now, what I find really depressing are areas where everyone I see looks like a tatooed land whale.

YES there are some real good ones, specially in S./C Florida, the places are like a city-- but for many of the smaller ones, they are falling apart and are very empty-. People with $$$ will always have what ever they want- regardless, but many on lower incomes- are having problems in these communities

We dont have that here, you cant compare.

we are heading in the same direction. in the last several years one sees grandma raising a single childs kids, and kids are now allowed to be on insurance and get school grants based on parents wages until they are 26.

I also see taking elders back into the childs household a trend in the future. we are running out of $ for social programs.

My children already know that my will states that if any one of them put me in a nursing home, or if they allow anyone else to put me a nursing home that they will each get $10.00 from my estate and the rest goes to charity. My choice is home health care until the money runs out or they pull the plug, whichever comes first. If that sounds selfish, so be it.

They dont expect Earl and Emma to invite their lowlife, broke kids AND potentially THEIR kids to live there with them. That's the issue. If you dont understand, you need some help...
I agree with you all the way: :
