Hello, I will be taking a job working downtown St. Pete for American Express. I'm not sure of my schedule yet but I assume it'll be typical 8-5pm type of thing. We are moving from the Peninsula of Florida (Pensacola/Eglin AFB) area.

Initially we'd like to rent and would like to keep the rent under $1800 per month. I do have two small kids so schools are important and I would like a nice, safe neighborhood. We were looking at the Parrish/Ellenton area but Ive read some bad things about the bridge. We would take a little longer commute and have a little space than a shorter commute living right on top of someone else.

I could handle a consistent commute of 40 mins or less. If I had a choice Id take mileage over traffic. Also I would like to have fairly easy access to Tampa in case I take a job there in the future.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

How about no commute at all? a leisurely 15-20 minute stroll.
St Petes old Northeast with a bit of a westward extension around the Crescent lake area.
Downtown St Pete is at the bottom of this map.

West St. Pete has some great family-friendly neighborhoods as well.
