Default Musician rate of pay?

How much can a pretty competent solo musician with an expansive catalog of songs expect to be paid per engagement at a bar/pub/restaurant in the area? I know this is vague, but we are just curious how it compares to NYS. Thanks!

Forget playing bars down here. They only pay $250 for a 6 piece band for 4 hours. For solo players, expect 1/6th of that amount. Most club owners want you to play for free with Open Mic's, Jams, etc. A lot of garage bands and mature players will play for free just to drink beer, so they dilute the profession and ruin it for all the hardworking talented musicians who really need and deserve to make a buck.

I came down from NYS as well and I'm earning a decent income, but I do weddings and corporate gigs ONLY!

Good luck.

Thanks. It was more a topic that came up than a plan. Here it is going that same route more and moe. I appreciate the info. Terrible that musicians make about the same as they did in the 70s. Hope you have a busy wedding season.
